Emirates Expands Freighter Capacity with 5 New 777 Orders, Targeting 21 Units by 2026

Emirates placed a firm order for 5 additional Boeing 777 freighters, set for delivery between 2025 and 2026.With this latest order, Emirates now has 14 Boeing 777Fs pending delivery from Boeing through the end of 2026.

Additionally, Emirates has signed a multi-year lease extension with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise for 4 Boeing 777Fs in its existing fleet. With these investments, Emirates SkyCargo expects to operate a fleet of 21 production-built Boeing 777 freighters by December 2026, significantly expanding its current fleet of 11 units.

Emirates is also committed to converting 10 passenger Boeing 777-300ERs into freighters to further enhance its capacity and support fleet growth.

Even as it inducts new freighter aircraft into its operations, Emirates’ cargo division will continue to leverage the airline’s entire wide-body passenger fleet to ensure the fast, reliable, and efficient movement of goods worldwide. This approach offers customers increased flexibility with a diverse fleet that includes 777s, 777 freighters, 747 freighters, A350s, and A380s.

The Dubai government’s plans to expand Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) aim to create the world’s largest hub in terms of capacity. Once completed, DWC will be able to process 12 million tonnes of cargo annually, supporting the growth of the nearby Logistics District, which is envisioned as an international base for global cargo and shipping companies. This initiative is part of Dubai’s master plan to become a leading multi-modal cargo hub for air, sea, and land connections.

As part of its vision for future growth, Emirates plans to decide by the end of this calendar year on its freighter fleet for 2028/29 and beyond, with the Boeing 777-8F and Airbus A350-1000F as potential candidates.
